Insects of Cedar Creek

Order ARACHNIDA

()

I have only begun (1997) to become acquainted with the spiders and other arachnids of Cedar Creek, so the following discussion can only be considered preliminary. A useful reference is How to know the Spiders by B. J. Kaston. Pitfall trapping in CCESR old fields yields primarily wolf spiders (Lycosidae) and some crab spiders (Thomisidae). Families collected in old field sweeps are primarily crab spiders (Thomisidae and Philodromidae), Araneidae, Salticidae, Tetragnathidae, and Dictynidae. More than 50 species have been collected, but a number require determination by a specialist.
