Abstract. The specification of various receiver parameters and their effects on performance in radio tracking are considered. Noise figure, dynamic range, and intermodulation distortion are described and their consequences are discussed. The combined effects of atmospheric noise, antennas, cables, transmitters, receiver and operator on the overall effectiveness of the receiving system are discussed. Measurement techniques and specification standards for radio tracking receivers are suggested.
