Introduction. This history of the origin and development of the Cedar Creek Natural History Area is dedicated to Dr. Donald B. Lawrence, Professor Emeritus, Department of Botany, and his wife Elizabeth. The became actively involved in the early stages of the Area development when they presented 130 acres of land to the Minnesota Academy of Science, to be included in what was then called the Cedar Creek Forest. They presented this land as a living memorial to Dr. Lawrence's father, William Charlton Lawrence.
