Sarina Partridge

Sarina Partridge is a musician, song-leader and educator in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She feels most alive when learning, creating and sharing songs, and enjoys singing with a wide variety of music projects - Eastern European and Yiddish song, old-time music, community song-leading... and everything in between. She worked for several years as a Waldorf School classroom teacher and before that, in a variety of educational settings. She has a passion for connecting people with their own creativity and with community, and uses singing to help folks develop a sense of wonder for this wild world around us.

As an Artist in Residence at Cedar Creek, Sarina plans to weave together her background in science/science education with her career as a songwriter, performer, and community songleader. She will compose, record and perform a body of work during her residency year. She will work alongside scientists delving into topics such as biodiversity, ways of tracking ecosystems’ responses to a changing and warming climate, responses to disturbances, cycles of succession – in specific place-based research projects – and use that experience to craft songs that are inspired by this work, drawing out themes and lessons from nature around health, healing and resilience. Her work will relate natural processes to inner experiences and truths in a way that is accessible to non-scientists, through simple part-songs and rounds meant to be taught to a group. Sarina also plans to record impressions, images, and ideas through visual art, writing and photography of the moments and places that spark her song ideas. She will collect this artwork, writing and photography in a “song journal” that will accompany and give context to the finished recordings and transcriptions of her songs.

She performs and teaches with several music projects and as a solo artist, and leads a community choir in Minneapolis. She and her ensembles can be hired for public concerts and private events such as weddings, community and school workshops, house concerts, and private lessons. She also licenses her songs if you'd like to teach them in your own classrooms and community groups!
