Consequences of intraspecific and interspecific biodiversity in willows and poplars for community processes and ecosystem function (BiWaP). I'm fascinated with the relationship between biodiversity and the patterns and processes we observe in the natural world. I explore these relationships by studying plants and plant communities - especially trees like poplars (Populus sp.) and willows (Salix sp.). Though we often prefer thinking about biodiversity as the number of species in one place (species richness), I think that this level of analysis can be complemented by including the amount of diversity represented by individuals within a species (intraspecific diversity) and - in the case of long-lived clonal species - maybe even the amount of diversity within an individual plant!
