Station CC1 operated between 1988 and 1998. It was a Campbell Scientific unit with CR21X datalogger, maintained and downloaded over dial-up lines by the soils department at the University of Minnesota. Instruments were fixed to a tripod approximately 200 meters due north of the Lawrence Laboratory on the Cedar Creek grounds.

In 1988, Station CC1 was retired and replaced with a newer unit, designated CC2. The new unit is directly maintained by Cedar Creek personnel, affording better reliability and accessibility, and is permanently connected to local computers and thence to the internet by dedicated high-speed lines.
