Experiment 067

Seed Mass and Dispersal Mode of Common Plants at CCNHA

Summary

In the summer of 1989, seeds of the most common plants at Cedar Creek were collected to determine the mean seed mass for each species. We attempted to collect seeds from 10 different individuals and use at least 100 seeds to determine mean seed mass. We also classified the life history category and dispersal mode of each species. For the pappus-dispersed composites, we determined pappus area and disk loading. This data will be combined with data from the old field survey, E014, and E042 data to examine how seed mass influences successional patterns at Cedar Creek.
