Plots (1m x 0.5m) inside fenced microplots (E001)in fields C and D and transects outside the exclosures were sampled for percent cover of legumes, other forbs, grasses, and woody vegetation. Inside exclosure D001 and C001, we sampled all plots with fertilizer treatments I, A, C, and H (5 plots/treatment in D001 and 6 plots/treatment in C001). We sampled four control plots inside the D003 exclosure. Outside the D exclosures, transects perpendicular to the exclosure fence were laid out and 1m x 0.5m plots were examined at random intervals along the transect. The legumes found in these plots were Lathyrus venosus, Lespedeza capitata, and Amorpha canescens.
