Experiment 028

The Effect of Nitrogen Addition on Litter Decomposition

Summary

The purpose of this experiment is to study the effect of NH4NO3 addition on litter decomposition. This experiment was conducted in fields B and C on plots set up for E001. The 24 plots used in each field were the 6 plots for each of the treatments D, F, H, and I. For a description of fertilizer added to E028, see E001 in file fertilization details. The litter used was dried Schizachyrium scoparium collected from the plots. Litter collected from a particular treatment in each field was placed back in plots of the same treatment level. The litter bags were placed in the plots in October 1982. Six litter bags were placed in each plot making 144 litter bags in each field. One litter bag from each plot was collected at 6 different times between October 1982 and May 1984.
