Experiment 020

The Effect of Nitrogen and Light Gradients on the Growth Rate of Two Plant Species

Summary

The purpose of this experiment was to look at the effect of a nitrogen and light gradients on the growth rates of two plant species. The experiment was located in the same fenced area as E018. The experiment was a full factorial design with 7 nitrogen levels and seven light levels. See nutradd.doc for how the soil was constructed. See E019 for light levels. The two species were Agrostis scabra and Poa pratensis. There were two replicates of the full factorial design for a total of 196, 4-gallon pots. There was a powdery mildew problem with P. pratensis and Poa was abandoned. Both replicates of A. scabra were harvested in 1985 and began again in 1986, see E030.
