Sampling for B007
All trees in controls and exclosures were tagged, mapped, examined for browsing damage, and measured annually (maximum height) from 1983 through 1989. Soil cores were taken in the fall of 1983. Four cores in each 5 meter length, 2m apart across the middle of the 5 meters, were combined into one sample. This made 6 samples per plot. The cores were taken to a depth of 10 cm. Pocket gopher mounds were mapped on these plots every year from 1986 to 1989. Future sampling will be done at variable intervals, probably every 3-5 years.
