Plants of Cedar Creek

 Family VITACEAE

(Grape Family)

CCNHA has two representatives of the Grape Family. Vitis riparia (Wild Grape) is an uncommon climbing vine at woods edge.  It infrequently bears fruit.  Parthenocissus inserta (=P. vitacea: Virginia Creeper) is a much more common climbing vine and ground spreader of open woodland.  P. quinquefolia has been mistakenly reported for the Area.  It has suction-like tendril tips and is more likely to be found in floodplain forests along the Mississippi River in SE Minnesota.
