Plants of Cedar Creek

 Family PYROLACEAE

(Shin-leaf Family)

Four species of Pyrola (Shin-leafs) are found here in lowland woods.  The most common is P. elliptica.  Others collected include:  P. asarifolia, P. rotundifolia, and P. secunda.

Chimaphila umbellata (Prince’s Pine, Pipsissewa) is found on Crone’s Knoll and Lab Woods.  Two uncommon white parasitic species are Monotropa uniflora (Indian Pipe) and M. hypopithys (Pinesap).  They occur in upland woods; the latter is quite hard to find.

*Moneses uniflora (One-Flowered Pyrola) occurs in northern Minnesota, but is not found here.
