Five species of Polygala (Milkworts) are found on the Area. Three are inhabitants of wet meadows. The most common is P. sanguinea (Purple Milkwort). It is found on wet sandy swales. P. seneca is an uncommon Milkwort found along the perimeter of the Bay of Tonkin. P. cruciata (Cross-leaved Milkwort) is a State Endangered species found in only a couple of moist sandy swales in MEM and HAS. P. polygama (Racemed Milkwort) is fairly common in xeric old fields. P. paucifolia (Gaywings) occurs in xeric open woods. It is extremely rare on the Area and was last noted on Pine Ridge north of CBL and on Katies Knoll.
