Plants of Cedar Creek

Family CELASTRACEAE

(Bittersweet Family)

Three species of woody Bittersweets are found on the Area.  Celastrus scandens (Climbing Bittersweet) is found in open woods along NSLR south of the Lab.  Euonymus alatus (Spindle Tree) and E. atropurpureus (Burning Bush) were planted and are persisting at Corneia’s Cabin.  The weedy invasive bittersweet, Celastrus orbiculatus, has not yet arrived at Cedar Creek.
