The genus, Saggitaria
(Arrowhead), is represented by the familiar and widespread plant, S.
latifolia (Broad-leaved Arrowhead). Two other species, S.
rigida (Sessile-fruited Arrowhead) and (Crested Arrowhead) S.
cristata (S. graminea var. cristata),occur on the sandy
east shore of Fish Lake, the former being common in most years, the latter
unrelocatd in the 1980s. One should be on the lookout for a State-listed
rare species, S. graminea (S. graminea var. graminea)
in shallow sand lakes like Fish Lake. The genus,
Alisma
(Water Plantains), is represented by one species at Cedar Creek, A.
triviale, which is uncommon in muck in drying rich fens and wet
meadows. It can be hard to distinguish from another species, A.
subcordatum, with which it intergrades.
