Order LAGOMORPHA
(Rabbits and Hares)
Family LEPORIDAE
Only three representatives of the Rabbit Family are found here, and none are
very common. The Eastern Cottontail
(Sylvilagus floridanus) can be found about the gardens of some residences.
A Snowshoe Hare
(Lepus americanus) population used to exist in the extensive White
Cedar Swamps on the Area, but they vanished sometime in the late 1970s and save
for one leg found in 1988? by Dave Bosanko, no other sign has been found.
An occasional White-tailed Jack Rabbit
(Lepus townsendii) is encountered as a roadkill and Black-tailed
Jack Rabbit (Lepus xx) is also a possibility.
