The larvae of most Soldier Flies (254 NA spp) are primarily aquatic. Roughy 20 species have been collected at CCESR. The most frequently encountered are species of Stratiomys (adelpha, badia, discalis, barbata, obesa), Odontomyia (cincta, virgo, nigerrima, pilimana, pubescens, arcuata, discolorata, hoodiana), and Hedriodisca vertebrata. Less frequently collected are: Actina viridis, Berkshiria albistyulum, Nemotelus sp, Pachygaster sp, Ptecticus sp, and Sargus sp. Many of the last mentioned genera have terrestrial larvae.
