Perhaps 10+ species of Blister Beetles (310 NA spp) have been collected
at Cedar Creek. Epicauta pennsylvanica is the common black
Meloid found on goldenrod in late summer. Its larvae feed on grasshopper
eggpods in the soil. Epicauta fabricii is a fairly common
early summer gray Meloid that feeds on
Lathyrus,
Lupinus,
and possibly Vicia. Perhaps a few more species of
Epicauta
occur on Cedar Creek, but they have not been differentiated. Rare Meloids
infrequently collected include
Meloe (3 spp--angusticollis,
americanus,
montanus?),
Tricrania
sanguinipennis,
Nemognathus
vittigera, and Zonitis
bilineatus.
