Summer Camps

This summer, Cedar Creek will be partnering with a variety of local education organizations to offer summer camp options for students entering grades 3 - 12! Some of these are our own camps, while others are based elsewhere and feature a day-long field trip to Cedar Creek. Few students get to visit the reserve in the summer, when the prairie is in full bloom and the hallways and experimental fields are filled with scientists. If your child loves science and nature, we encourage you to sign them up! Cedar Creek is a wonderful place to explore, learn and connect with your inner scientist.

Oak Savanna Research Experience, in partnership with Providence Academy

(students entering grades 9-12)

Are you a high school student interested in scientific research? Want to gain experience doing real ecological fieldwork outside at one of the most influential field stations in the USA? This summer, join Providence Academy teachers and University of Minnesota scientists at Cedar Creek and get your hands dirty working to answer questions about ecosystem ecology! This summer’s focus will be on the oak savanna, an ecosystem of conservation importance that is home to a wide variety of unique plants and animals. You will work in small groups to design research projects, collect and analyze data, and investigate all aspects of the savanna ecosystem, from the roles fire and water play in shaping the landscape to the ecology of the wildlife that live there.

Mondays and Wednesday, June 17th - July 3rd. Choose to meet at Cedar Creek or use provided transport from Providence Academy in Plymouth, MN.

  • If meeting onsite at Cedar Creek, register online through Cedar Creek at tinyurl.com/savannas2019. Class meets 9:30am - 3:30pm onsite and costs $300 if no transportation is needed.

(students entering grades 7-9)

Wargo Nature Center is teaming up again with Cedar Creek to offer this 'week in the life of a scientist' camp! We’ll spend the week exploring Cedar Creek and learning about Minnesota's different ecosystems through hands-on science activities. Participants will have a chance to collect data, use scientific equipment, and even meet some of the scientists who do research at Cedar Creek!

June 24th - 27th, 9am - 4pm. $160 (+tax) per student. Registration available online through Wargo Nature Center.

Wonders of Water (students entering grades 4-6)

Students entering grades 4-6 can become junior scientists at Cedar Creek! Through hands-on learning, games, and outdoor exploration, they will learn all about the water cycle, water quality, animal adaptations, and actions they can take to keep our water clean and healthy. On our final day of camp, we will spend a day in and around the water celebrating what we have learned. Dress to be outside and wet! Fee is $160 per student.
